I'm Pregnant Yet Don't Have Any SymptomsIf you are positive that you are pregnant but don’t experience any of the symptoms or major changes, it can be worrying. The reality is that all women respond to pregnancy differently.

While many will experience breast tenderness, exhaustion, heartburn, or morning sickness during their first trimester, you may be pregnant but no symptoms at all. There is no reason to think that you will necessarily be nauseous during your entire first trimester.

In reality, some women don’t ever feel sick during their pregnancy and this can be normal. Other women won’t feel any signs of pregnancy until they are six to seven weeks pregnant. It is never a concern if you don’t have symptoms with your pregnancy unless you had them but they disappear suddenly within the first trimester.

Pregnant Without Symptoms— How Can It Be?

Despite popular belief, it is actually fairly common for women to not notice any symptoms of pregnancy in the first weeks or months. Every woman will have a different pregnancy and because of this, not every woman will experience each of the common symptoms like gas, bloating, food cravings, morning sickness, and nausea. In reality, the most common symptom is actually a feeling of increased fatigue and some women won’t even notice this. Therefore, pregnant but no symptoms is quite possible.

When You Are Not Sure of Your Pregnancy

Most of the time when you think you are pregnant but still don’t have symptoms you will be in one of two situations: you’ve had a positive home pregnancy test but still need to see your doctor or you are going through the “two week wait” after ovulation but before your menstrual period. As hard as it is to be in either of these situations, the best option is to wait and take care of yourself in the meantime. You will probably be able to confirm (or not) your pregnancy very soon.

When the Doctor Has Confirmed Your Pregnancy

In some cases your doctor already confirmed your pregnancy but you don’t have symptoms. This might just mean that you are a “lucky” one that won’t get any unpleasant pregnancy symptoms such as bloating or cravings. Some women will also have symptoms of pregnancy that they mistake for normal everyday feelings. Examples would be having a huge appetite, a larger appetite, or more energy.

Whether or not you feel symptoms of pregnancy, always keep your appointments with your doctor for the prenatal checkups. This will ensure your baby is developing correctly. Anytime you have unusual symptoms like bleeding or sharp pains, see your doctor. Most of the time, your pregnancy will be fine and soon you will start to grow a baby bump and feel your baby kicking.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) seems to be a common cause of pregnant but no symptoms. Many women who have this condition will have no symptoms or only minor signs of pregnancy. They may only occasionally notice things like morning sickness, breast soreness, or hunger pains and they won’t be as severe as with most expecting moms.

Therefore if you have PCOS and do get pregnant, you shouldn’t be surprised if you don’t have any symptoms. This doesn’t indicate anything wrong with you or the baby. Talk to your doctor about this condition.

Watch Out for Signs of Miscarriage

If you did experience signs of pregnancy within your first few weeks, but now don’t have any symptoms, this could indicate a miscarriage. You should contact your doctor right away anytime your pregnancy symptoms suddenly stop.

Most women will realize when they miscarry because there is an intense abdominal pain as well as constant contractions and bleeding. Despite this, sometimes losing a pregnancy won’t lead to these manifestations, especially in early pregnancy. To avoid miscarrying without your knowledge, keep tabs on the development of your pregnancy.

What Others Say:

“I don’t think you should worry if you don’t have any symptoms. I didn’t have pregnancy symptoms until I was six weeks along and my nausea kicked in. Other than the nausea, I didn’t have any other signs until several weeks after my second trimester started. Based on my experience, I think you shouldn’t worry as long as your nurse or doctor says you have a healthy pregnancy. When your symptoms do start, you’ll wish they hadn’t.”

“I’m not surprised by someone being pregnant but no symptoms are felt. When I was pregnant with my 7 year old, I didn’t have any pregnancy symptoms until 8 weeks into the pregnancy. This time I didn’t have any until nearly 10 weeks. In fact, I didn’t miss a period and the doctor had to give me an ultrasound to check for a miscarriage. He was shocked to realize there was a healthy, kicking baby in my uterus! Don’t be surprised if it happens to you.”

“I know exactly how you feel. With this pregnancy my symptoms would be there and then they wouldn’t. My breasts would be sore one day then normal a few days later. I didn’t have nausea either until 8 weeks. One day I even went back to my normal bathroom schedule. That really worried me but now I am almost 15 weeks pregnant. The one thing that has helped me is knowing that if you have a miscarriage, you will know from the cramping and bleeding. If you don’t have many symptoms of pregnancy, that doesn’t mean that you aren’t pregnancy anymore. It just means you are lucky.”
